For the classic afternoon tea, a lively blend is always good choice and White Ginger Orange Peach tea is just that. The Bai Mu Dan version of white tea, an enhanced and strengthened variant of white, works well with fruit and spice flavors. Steeping instructions:
Amount of water: 6 oz
Amount of Tea: 1 Flat teaspoon
Water Temperature: 180° F
Steeping Time: 4-8 minutes.
Note: Do not use boiling water for Green and White teas as they will burn and create bitter flavors.
A good way to guess water temperature without a thermometer is to bring the water to a boil, and wait about 30 seconds (for White tea) or 60 seconds (for Green tea) before pouring over the leaves.
I recently received a number of samples from Red Leaf Tea through Teaviews and through an order that I placed with them. I must say that I have particularly impressed with a number of their offerings and especially their flavored white tea blends. Not only have all of the white teas been skillfully blended, but the tea leaf used is of a good quality. Red Leaf Tea lists the ingredients in this blend as Bai Mu Dan white tea, ginger root, orange peel, peach pieces, marigolds, safflowers and ginger orange peach flavor. The aroma of the dry leaf is kind of a peachy orange smell.
I prepared this using water cut short boiling and infused for a full 2 min. One nice thing about this white tea is that it does not seem to be super temperature sensitive. Some white teas bitter very easily if infused in hot water even for only a short period of time. This one does not so you can enjoy a nice piping hot cup of white tea. The flavor profile is of a smooth floral white tea and it is led by the ginger according to my taste buds. It also has a nice mild fruity backdrop to it. It is arguable if that fruity taste is more orange or peach, but I personally thought that the orange had the slight edge. I found this to be absolutely delicious. While the ginger leads the flavor profile, I would not call it overwhelming. However, it does pack enough heat that by the end of the cup, I had a nice spicy build-up of it in my mouth.
I thoroughly enjoyed this offering from Red Leaf Tea. In recent months I have not been drinking hardly any white tea at all and their blends have gotten me excited about white tea again. This is essentially a ginger white tea with a fruity backsplash. While many Ginger Peach or Ginger Orange blends are heavy on the fruit and light on the ginger, this one has a more pronounced ginger flavor. The fruits sing backup for the ginger, and the white tea holds its own and is not overpowered. If you like fruity ginger blends and white tea, then this is a must try.
